It came to me as a surprise when she arrived home today. We hugged as usual and exchanged greetings. This time, however, she started sobbing all of a sudden. And our hugs lasted a little longer than ordinary.
(Now, it’s not that I haven’t seen her blood-red eyes before but again).
Her tight grip was evident, heart beats louder, clearly palpable.
Baffled, bewildered I asked what happened?
She ruptured looking into my empty eyes with her eyes full,”Looking at you makes me want to cry ‘kancha’, you forgot about me didn’t you?”
I remember saying promptly (caressing her left hand warmly on that hot summer afternoon), ” I understand XXXX and you are absolutely right. But, I am fighting my own battle XXXX. Still, still I am so sorry, …… but then what really happened, why are you crying? I stressed.”
We both went to the other room which was preferably peaceful and quiet.
And I just listened to her.
I listened as I watched her rub tears off of her eyes a hundred times over as she spilled her circumstances.
I continued to listen intently without a word except for few nods.
And finally, after minutes and hour of pouring revelations, I noticed her take deep breaths of relief.
Her eyes tinkering once again, more alive now. Soul — dirt washed, satisfied despite the exhausted and exasperated tone of her voice.
In the end, we ended up laughing over our childhood mess; an intended sweet distraction.
In the end, I reckon she was looking for a friend, her shield, the ever missed comfort. Love.
So, to all the beautiful people, girls, women, boys, and men who’ve made me a small part of your big, gigantic heart. This song is for you.
To you beautiful friends, women and men, my mother, father, beloved twin brother and my only sister, to all who have shared their pain, sorrows, happiness and tears with me. This is to you!
Thank you so so much for existing.
